Winsford win away, doing the double, back to back over a confident Warrington Wolverines.
The Ladies knew that Warrington wouldn't be a push over following last weeks home match, which ended with a deserved 3 - 1 win to Winsford United Ladies, which ended Warrington's 2 year unbeaten record.
Warrington came out of the blocks with only one thing in mind and that was to beat Winsford and in so doing, repair their dented pride. And it was Warrington, who scored first, following a uncharacteristic mistake by the Ladies defence. The first half ended, 1 nil to the Wolves.
However, Winsford came out and dug deep. Their determined and gutsy performance was rewarded with an equaliser from Amy Hughes, Winsford's striker who stormed forward from the half way line to score. Fantastic finish Amy!! For the rest of the second half it was an end to end battle, with both teams having their fair share of the opportunities, but not capitaising on them.
Then, in the last minute of injury time it was Winsford's Amy Hughes, who sealed the win with a superb strike. The ball broke to Danni Lydiate in the centre circle, who picked out Amy who had just peeled away from the Warrington Centre Half. The pass from Danni was inch perfect and Amy struck the ball sweetly, on the half volley from 30 Yards out, over the Warrington keeper and into the top corner. That, was a WORLD CLASS strike, no doubt about it!
Another great team performance from the Ladies, every single player giving their all.
